Jesus is Lord!

If you have been a Christian for any length of time, you have undoubtedly heard this statement spoken or seen it written by
ministers or other believers.  Maybe, you have thought, “What’s the big deal about that?” or “Why do I need to know that?” or
“What does that have to do with me?”  It is, in fact, one of the most significant statements in the Bible; one that every believer
should know and understand, upon which we should meditate, submit to, apply to our daily life, and which we should be able
to communicate in sharing our faith with others.

1 Corinthians 12:3 states, “Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and
no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.”

“Okay, that’s good, but I still don’t understand why it’s so important.”

There are three Bible words that translate into the English word, “Lord”:
1. Lord, ‘adon (ah-don) Hebrew; Strong’s #113:  Owner, master, lord, sir.  The primary meaning is “master”.  It may refer both
to a human master and the divine Lord.  A citizen may address his king or any other noble person as ‘adon.  It was the title
applied to Joseph repeatedly by his brothers in Egypt.  ‘Adon is used in modern Hebrew to convey the meaning of “mister” or
“sir”.  The intensive form is ‘Adonai, a kind of plural form that is used only in reference to the glorious Lord in all His powers
and attributes.
2. Lord, kurios (koo-ree-oss) Greek; Strong’s #2962:  Originally, an adjective, signifying authority or having power.  As a noun
the word designates the owner, master, controller, one in authority.  In direct address, kurios is a title of respect given to
masters, teachers, and so on.  Kurios in the OT was Yahweh, while in the NT the title is transferred to Jesus.
3.  Lord, despotes (des-pot-ace) Greek; Strong’s #1203; The origin of the English word “despot.”  The word signifies owner,
master one who has absolute dominion, supreme authority, and unlimited power arising from ownership.  Despotes includes
total submission on our part to Gods’ will, not out of slavish fear or bondage, but joyfully and willingly.

Armed with these definitions, we could read 1 Corinthians 12:13 like this:  “Therefore I make known to you that no one
speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Owner, Master, Controller, Absolute
Dominion, Supreme Authority, and unlimited Power arising from Ownership except by the Holy Spirit.”

Once we have the revelation that Jesus is the Lord [“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell
therein.” (Psalm 24:1)], it is then required of each of us to choose Jesus as our personal Lord [“The word is near you, in your
mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):  that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and
believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto
righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:8-10)]

“Been there, done that.  I’m going to Heaven.  Thanks.  What’s for lunch?”

Romans 10:8-10 is not just a one time procedure in which we participate, in order to guarantee our passage to Heaven.
Daily….DAILY, we are to believe in our heart and confess with our mouth, “Jesus, you are my owner, my Master.  I yield control
of my life to You.  You are Absolute Dominion and Supreme Authority of my life.  I will have no other gods before You.  If what
my doctor, lawyer, banker, or anyone else in my life says, doesn’t agree with Your Word, I choose what YOU say over what that
person says.  If the media’s reports about weather, economy, government, [fill in the blank], does not line up with Your Word, I
won’t give place to their opinions or false reports.  I will only believe Your Word.  If my own thoughts are not in agreement with
what You have said, I cast down those false imaginations.  I take every thought captive to the obedience of Your Word. (See 2
Corinthians 10: 4-6)  As a result, the Lord will fulfill His part of Romans 10: 8-10, “you will be saved.”
Saved, sozo (sode-zoe)Greek; Strong’s #4982:
To save, heal, cure, preserve, keep safe and sound, rescue from danger or destruction, deliver.  Sozo saves from physical
death by healing and from spiritual death by forgiving sin and its effects.  Sozo in primitive cultures is translated simply, “to give
new life” and “to cause to have a new heart.”  That is the “good news” of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Hear and heed the Words of Jesus the Owner, Master, Controller, Absolute Dominion, Supreme Authority, and unlimited
Power arising from Ownership:

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in
heaven.  Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name,
and done many wonders in Your name?’  And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice
lawlessness!’  Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his
house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for
it was founded on the rock.  But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man
who built his house on the sand:  and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it
fell. And great was its fall.”  (Mt. 7:21-27)

Jesus is Lord!
We love you, and pray for you every day!
